Membership of the Irish Maritime Law Association

Members of the IMLA include shipping, insurance and legal interests.  The membership of the Association is divided into three classes, namely (a) individual members, (b) representative members such as chambers of commerce, insurance and underwriters organisations, and (c) honorary members.

One of the honorary members of the association deserves a particular mention namely Niall McGovern who was one of the founders of the association and its president for many years during which he served as an elected member on a number of CMI committees.  The association owes a debt of gratitude to him for his contribution to its work over the years.

Anyone wishing to apply for membership of the IMLA should write to the secretary Helen Noble at helen.noble@mop.ie

All such applications will be considered by the executive committee as soon as possible following receipt.

The election of members to the Executive Committee takes place each year at the IMLA annual general meeting.

Members are referred to Article 10 of the IMLA constitution which provides that candidates for election to the Executive Committee can be nominated either by the Executive Committee, or can be proposed by two members of the Association.

Members who wish to nominate a particular candidate in any year must notify the secretary of the nomination in writing not less than seven days prior to the date of the Annual General Meeting. Members should also certify that the candidate, if elected, is prepared to serve on the Executive Committee.
