| Membership
of the Irish Maritime Law Association Members of the IMLA include
shipping, insurance and legal interests. The
membership of the Association is divided into three classes, namely (a) individual
members, (b) representative members such as chambers of commerce, insurance and
underwriters organisations, and (c) honorary members.
One of the
honorary members of the association deserves a particular mention namely Niall McGovern
who was one of the founders of the association and its president for many years during
which he served as an elected member on a number of CMI committees.
The association
owes a debt of gratitude to him for his contribution to its work over the years.

wishing to apply for membership of the IMLA should write to the secretary

All
such applications will be considered by the executive committee as soon as
possible following receipt.

The election of members to the Executive Committee takes place each year at the IMLA annual general meeting.
Members are referred to Article 10 of the IMLA constitution which provides that candidates for election to the Executive Committee can be nominated either by the Executive Committee, or can be proposed by two members of the Association.
Members who wish to nominate a particular candidate in any year must notify the secretary of the nomination in writing not less than seven days prior to the date of the Annual General Meeting. Members should also certify that the candidate, if elected, is prepared to serve on the Executive Committee.
